Another 2013 Resolution: To make a conscious effort to stay inspired.
A confession: I have a growing obsession with magazines. My taste in reading materials used to be very limited and quite honestly, a bit judgmental. I used to only read the classics, not pop culture young adult novels; journals from the library, not glossy magazines. But lately, magazines of all sorts and topics are starting to grow on me–from photography to health, crafts, DIY, home decor, design and yes, sometimes even fashion.
The thing about a good magazine is that it can give just as great an escape as an escapist novel. Flipping through a few pages with detailed photography and I’m already taken to a world or field that I may not be familiar with! Skim through a photography magazine and it could inspire you to be a better photographer. When I see home and decor magazines, it makes me want to get out of bed and and clean the frustrating room. I’d look through Craft and DIY magazines, I feel like I could be the next Martha freaking Stewart!
This year, I resolve to actually push myself to always be inspired: by simple pleasures, the everyday adventures, little projects. I want to learn more about lifestyles and experiences that I used to dismiss as “just not my thing”. I want to be inspired by things and experiences that are out of my comfort zone and to take a second look at where I don’t normally see beauty or interest.
I want to take in the world and be inspired by it.

The internet is always a source of inspiration though, so you will find it easy enough, if only you would keep searching for it 😉

Oh I totally agree! There is definitely no scarcity in inspiration. My only problem with the internet though is that it gives me inspiration ADHD! SO much information available about everything at any time, so once in a while, I enjoy kicking back and being taken away and inspired by a laid back magazine 🙂

It’s exactly the same for me! I used to be such a snob about what I read (the classics, just like you), and now I will happily read almost anything I get my hands on. Aside from 50 Shades Of Grey. I think that’s where I draw the line. Or maybe I shouldn’t be so judgmental…
I think it sounds like a great resolution to keep an open mind and to make an effort to explore. How else can we truly know what we like? Most things will probably be an enriching addition to our lives, right?

Precisely! And oh wow, I currently still refuse to read 50 Shades of Grey too! But if you ever give in, let me know what you thought of it.

E-magazines still can never substitute beautiful paper magazines. It’s funny that I collect old magazines even without understanding all of them (they are in Finnish). I just love looking at the beautiful photos, especially decor magazines. (You know, Scandinavian decor is addictive!)
I love how to try different things and start putting yourself into them. Exploration is always nice. And a new “Martha freaking Stewart”… who knows!!??

Thank you for this! I think it sounds like a great way to start the new year. Broadening horizons and searching for the beauty in every little thing.
